Do you represent Badpuppy?

No. I am not answerable to them and they are not responsible for me. The site is mine alone. Not theirs.

I began GayCams at Fortune Cities on Aug. 8, 1998. Five weeks later, Badpuppy offered me free webspace and I was glad to accept. They asked me not to advertise for their competitors (commercial live sex). Copyright infringement and minors may also have been mentioned. Beyond that, they have never ventured even the mildest suggestion concerning how I run GayCams.

Help! I don't understand how the front page works.

Q and A regarding the alphabetical list and the Search function are covered in separate Help menus near the bottom of the front page.

Can I avoid seeing that Splash page?

I always put real pretty pictures on the Splash page, but if you get tired of seeing it just check the little box at the bottom of the page before you click Enter GayCams. Then you won't see it again for 10 days. After that, just check it again. Remember to bookmark the main page and not the splash page!

I want to be able to vote for my favorite cam.

Then you will have to do it some place else.

The winners of such votes are not the most Popular sites and they certainly are not the Best sites. They are just the sites with the most nagging and whining. ("Please, oh, please. Vote for ME!!!! Please vote for me. I'm begging you. I'll show you my dick if you vote for me!" And here are some pop-up vote windows to remind you just in case you forget.) It's all just so pathetic.

If you really do like a site, then tell people about it on a mailing list, message board or newsgroup. Find links to all of these on my Mailing Lists page.

I pushed a camera icon but no cam image appeared in the preview window. How come?

The cam may simply be turned off. Or the server may be down at the other end. Sometimes the operator has renamed the file without telling me and I need to go and find out what the new name is. If he changed his mind and wants the preview window removed, all he need do is ask. I don't use a preview window without permission. Of course, I may also have made an error in the html code. Please tell me if you think I need to correct or update anything. I really appreciate those kind of tips from cam fans.

The slogan says, All Gay/All Free, but you have straight guys here. Shouldn't you rename GayCams?

The name causes me some problems now. But it's not so bad that I feel the need for such extreme action. Suffice it to say that the Browse feature and the Default Search settings produce a list that still conforms to my original "all Gay" concept for the site. Bear in mind, all of the Str8 Cams listed are at least gay-friendly or they would not allow me to include them. They are actively inviting gay visitors. That has to count for something.

What about Adult Check?

Adult Check is a big problem. When I started GayCams, AC cost only about $15 a year. Now it is very expensive. I just don't know what to do. I know that some cammers have expenses they need to cover in order to maintain their sites but I don't want to list commercial cams.

Until I arrive at a more permanent solution, please notice that if a site requires Adult Check this is indicated in the pull-down menu within the cam entry.

There's this sex cam site I like and he says you refused to list him. You sure are mean.

I am under no obligation to anyone to list any site if I don't want to. I never promised to list every guy cam site in the world. I like sites that are friendly, personal and expressive. I don't like hardcore sex sites with no redeeming qualities. In particular, I don't like sites with hostile pornographic ad banners appearing conspicuously. If you don't like my choices, there are other lists that are not so discriminating - some of which may get even more visitors than GayCams.

As a matter of fact, I have been told by countless numbers of web cammers that they don't like to be listed on those sites and prefer to be listed only at GayCams, because those sites send so many obnoxious visitors - those with incessant demands for sex shows.

GayCams perfectly suits lots of cam fans and lots of cammers and, most importantly, it suits me. And, if you think that I am putting too much stress on such obvious points, take a look at my Rants page some time and find out how dense some people can be.

If you don't list my site, I'm complaining to Badpuppy about you!

Go ahead. You will get a polite response explaining that it is my site to do with as I please. You'll have as much luck complaining to GeoCities demanding a site hosted there be changed to suit you. Except GeoCities won't do you the courtesy of a reply. Both of them may, however, pass your message around the office and have a good laugh over it.

What are the mailing lists for?

There are two mailing lists. The GayCams list carries some occasional news and announcements. If a cam host wants to write to the list I may approve the message if it seems to be of general interest. The GayCams2 list is strictly for announcements of new cams. Messages carry the name of the site and the URL - so that you can be among the first to discover a new cam site.

I think you should give awards to cam sites.

I think awards are silly. The only award that I might find remotely interesting would be one given by a group of cam operators to one of their own. And even then only if it's given very seldom. One a month, or less. Distributing them en masse is absurd.

The usual reason that site A gives an award to site B is as an inducement to get site B to provide a link to site A. I've received several unsolicited awards at my personal web site. They always look to me like mediocre sites trying to gain attention from better sites. I have always ignored them.

I don't like the pic you use of [cam guy]. Will you change it?

I like to change the pictures sometimes. If you have something suitable, please send it to me! I'll crop and resize it myself and put it into the rotation.

Will you send me hot photos of [cam guy] from last Saturday night?

No. The cam operators generally do not like to be treated as commodities. They are entire people with personalities, and everything, and they don't enjoy being treated as mere pornographic objects. They don't usually like to have their photos passed around like this, or - worse - posted to newsgroups.

That reminds me, if you find a collection of "cam captures" on a web site, please tell me about it. Action will be taken, by myself together with other cam operators, to have the site removed.

How do I get a cam added here?

Please direct the cam host to the Add-A-Webcam form. It covers the main points of information I need in order to make an accurate entry. I won't list a site without permission from the owner.

Do you make any money on this?

When you buy a subscription to Badpuppy, I get a commission of 45% of your initial payment. For the longest time, I made about $300 or 400 a month. Since I added the splash page, that has about doubled. I think I deserve it. This site is a lot of work to maintain.

Notice, too, the Shopping page which includes links to the storefronts of a variety of web cammers.
